PAN card is considered to be one of the most important documents in the country. Its application not only cover financial transactions between different parties, but it also acts as a valid identity proof and helps the Government to prevent tax evasion.

The procedure of applying for PAN is quite simple and it requires you to acquire the PAN application form and submit it to the authorities concerned. The Indian citizens are required to fill up Form 49A and foreign citizens can apply for PAN by filling up Form 49AA.

How to track PAN application status

Generally, it takes around two weeks for an individual to acquire his/her PAN card. To make it convenient for the applicant, they are given a fifteen digit acknowledgment number so that they can track their PAN application status. If you've applied for a PAN card, then you can track your application status through SMS. You need to send the SMS 'NSDL-PAN' followed by the 15-digit acknowledgment number to 57575. The applicant will receive an SMS with the details of their application status.


You can call the TIN call center to know the status of your PAN application. You can call on the toll-free number 020-27218080 and provide your acknowledgment number when prompted.

An applicant may visit the TIN-NSDL official website and log in to their profile to track the status of their application online.

PAN Card Validity

It is a common knowledge that PAN card is valid for an entire lifetime. Even if the PAN cardholder changes their address, the PAN is not necessarily required to be replaced. However, if someone wishes to make a change in the address on their PAN card, they can do so by applying for change/modifications in PAN card.

Tracking PAN Card Application status Online

Tracking the PAN card online instead of using the SMS service or phone call to track your PAN card is the most convenient way. Here are a few steps that you need to follow to monitor your PAN card application status online:

  • Login to NSDL or UTIITSL official website
  • Navigate to the 'PAN' section
  • Click on the 'Status of application' from the sidebar
  • Your application status will be shown on the screen.

The applicant will be required to provide their name, date of birth and the application type along with the 15-digit acknowledgment number to track their PAN application status.

It is essential to note that an applicant can track their application status only after 24 hours of applying.

How can I check UTI PAN Application Status?

You can track your UTI-PAN application status by visiting the UTIITSL online portal. To monitor your PAN status, you need to have your PAN application number. Follow these steps to track your application status through UTIITSL official website.

  • Visit the UTIITSL PAN online portal
  • Navigate to the UTI-PAN card page
  • Click on 'Track PAN Card Application Status'
  • Select 'Check status online.'
  • Click on 'Submit'
  • Your application status will be viewed on the screen.

How to track the NSDL-PAN status

You can follow these steps to track your PAN status on the NSDL website:

  • Visit the NSDL official website
  • Login by using your credentials
  • Navigate to 'PAN Cards'
  • Click on 'Track your PAN/TAN application status.'
  • Select your PAN application type
  • Enter the 15-digit acknowledgment number
  • Enter your name and birth date
  • Click on 'Submit'
  • Your application status will be viewed on the screen

You can also check the status of your payment through the NSDL website by entering either your transaction number or acknowledgment number.

  • Enter your acknowledgment number or transaction number
  • Provide your name
  • Enter your date of birth
  • Click on 'Show status.'
  • Your transaction status will be displayed on the screen

It is necessary to note that this facility is only provided to applicants who have paid using their credit/debit cards. Applicants who have made the payment through Demand Draft, Cheque or net banking cannot use the NSDL web portal to check their payment status.
