List of Holidays in Karnataka

Holidays are happy times that call for relaxation, enjoyment and spending quality time with friends and family. India is known for its multitude of holidays. Sunday is a regular holiday for all workplaces. Some private companies have holidays on both Saturday and Sunday, whereas Government organizations are mostly open on Saturdays. There are three national holidays in India when all organizations remain closed; these are Republic day on 26th Jan, Independence Day on 15th Aug and Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd Oct. About Karnataka

The state of Karnataka was formed in 1956. It is located in the South Western part of the Indian Peninsula. Bangalore, the IT capital of the country, is the capital city of this state. Karnataka has around 61 million residents. Kannada is the official language of the state, but the people of Karnataka also use Konkani, Tulu, Kodava, Tamil, Telugu, etc. Three districts in this state have residents speaking in pure Sanskrit. The state is known for its significant contributions to Carnatic and Hindustani classical music. The IT and manufacturing industries drive the economy of Karnataka. The state offers quite a few beautiful places such as Hampi, Badami, Mysore and Udupi for tourism.

Popular Festivals/Holidays in Karnataka

Mysore Dasara is celebrated as the state festival of Karnataka. It is marked by grand festivities at Mysore when the entire Mysore palace is beautifully illuminated. Ugadi is celebrated as it is the Kannada New Year. The harvest festival or Makara Sankranti is also widely celebrated in this state. Ganesh Chaturthi, Ram Navami, Gowri Habba, Nagapanchami, Deepavali, Basava Jayanthi, and Ramzan are among the other major festivals celebrated in Karnataka.
