There are a number of factors that need to be considered for the calculation of road tax:

  1. Manufacture of Vehicle.

  2. Type of fuel

  3. Engine Capacity

  4. Age of the vehicle

  5. Purpose of vehicle

  6. Place of manufacture

  7. Any Cess, if applicable

Tax on Two Wheelers:

Vehicle Category Lifetime Tax charged
For New Vehicles 9% of the vehicle cost
Vehicles under two years 8% of the vehicle cost
For vehicles aged > 2 but < 3 years 7% of the vehicle cost
For vehicles aged > 3 but < 4 years 6% of the vehicle cost
For vehicles aged > 4 but < 5 years 5% of the vehicle cost
For vehicles more than 9 years but < 10 years 2% of the vehicle Cost
Vehicles aged over 11 years 1% of the vehicle cost

Tax on 4 wheelers:

Vehicle Category Life time tax charged (for vehicles costing under 10 lakhs) Life time tax charged (for vehicles costing more than 10 lakhs)
