Vellore is a city as well as the administrative headquarters of the Vellore District of Tamil Nadu. It is a part of Tondaimandalam or Tondai Nadu. Located beside River Palar, Vellore has been ruled by various rulers such as the Pallavas, the Cholas, the Vijayanagar Empire, the Rashtrakutas, the Carnatic kingdom and the British. Legend says that the region housed many Velan (or Babul) trees, which gave the name "Vellore" to the city. The city of Vellore is the stronghold of the Arcot Mudaliars population. The other largest communities in the city are the Balija Naidus and the Muslims. The city has four zones that are further sub-divided into 60 wards for civic administration. Vellore is being developed into a smart city as per PM Narendra Modis Smart Cities Mission. Vellore is the home to two of Indias top educational institutions - Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) and Christian Medical College & Hospital. The city is a major center for medical tourism in the country as people from all over the country travel to Vellore to seek various treatments. Moreover, Vellore is the top exporter of leather products in the country. The countrys biggest explosives manufacturing company is located in Vellore. It is called the Tamil Nadu Explosives Limited (TEL). The Vellore Fort, Srilakshmi Golden Temple and Sri Jalakandeswarar Temple are few of the places worth visiting in Vellore.

Its stocks of Syndicate Bank are listed on Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, and Bangalore Stock Exchange. The Bank did a partnership with UNEP for initiating successful solar loan program. The solar loan program was launched in April 2003 to promote financing of solar home systems in southern India. The 3 RRBs are sponsored by the Syndicate bank presently, and all are making a profit by generating the total business of Rs.42101 crore with 1348 branches as on 31st March 2015. The Syndicate Bank has repositioned its Logo by changing the color combinations, as a part of the brand building exercise. The combinations of Orange, Yellow, Black & White colors make the logo unique. The primary objective of logo repositioning is to provide a more clear understanding of what the organization stands for, earn loyalty from its customers, establishing a brand identity, and also to give the logo a more contemporary look in a continuously changing & dynamic business environment. On November 7, 2017, Syndicate Bank created a human chain to spread awareness among the public for fighting with corruption. 14196 financial literacy programmes were organized to promote financial literacy in the villages, during the year 2015, in which 5.74 lakh persons were benefitted. Under PMJDY, the Bank has opened 3496559 number of accounts with a balance of Rs. 505 crore as on 31st March 2015.
