The holy city of Banaras or Varanasi is located in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the ?Sapta Puri? or seven holy cities where one can attain ?Moksha.? It is believed that Lord Shiva was the founder of this city that dwells on the banks of the holy Ganga. Hindu pilgrims perform ceremonies, ritualistic ablutions as well as cremation and last rites in the river ghats which are embankments made of stone slabs. The Dashashwamedh Ghat is the most spectacular one that attracts a lot of tourists to see the beautiful evening rituals. Numerous devotees and tourists from all over the world flock to Varanasi every year to visit the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple among several others. There are several mosques and Jan temples in and around the city as well. Tourism boosts the city?s economy, along with certain medium and small-scale industries and agricultural produce. The fertile Ganges plains help the farmers cultivate crops like wheat, maize and sorghum. Copper and brass goods are also manufactured in this city apart from the small-scale industries that produce rugs, carpets, clay toys and other handicrafts. All of these contribute to the city?s economy. Varanasi is also well known for its perfumes, silk and muslin fabrics, jewelry designs, sculptures and ivory crafts. This ancient city is indeed rich in its culture and traditions.

Its stocks of Syndicate Bank are listed on Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, and Bangalore Stock Exchange. The Bank did a partnership with UNEP for initiating successful solar loan program. The solar loan program was launched in April 2003 to promote financing of solar home systems in southern India. The 3 RRBs are sponsored by the Syndicate bank presently, and all are making a profit by generating the total business of Rs.42101 crore with 1348 branches as on 31st March 2015. The Syndicate Bank has repositioned its Logo by changing the color combinations, as a part of the brand building exercise. The combinations of Orange, Yellow, Black & White colors make the logo unique. The primary objective of logo repositioning is to provide a more clear understanding of what the organization stands for, earn loyalty from its customers, establishing a brand identity, and also to give the logo a more contemporary look in a continuously changing & dynamic business environment. The bank is hiring approximately 3000 young officers for replacing the officers getting retired. On November 7, 2017, Syndicate Bank created a human chain to spread awareness among the public for fighting with corruption. 14196 financial literacy programmes were organized to promote financial literacy in the villages, during the year 2015, in which 5.74 lakh persons were benefitted. Under PMJDY, the Bank has opened 3496559 number of accounts with a balance of Rs. 505 crore as on 31st March 2015.
