Udaipur is popularly known as the "City of Lakes." It is a major city in the Indian state of Rajasthan, which serves as the administrative headquarters of the Udaipur district. It was founded by the Rajput ruler Maharana Udai Singh II in 1559 and was the capital of the historic kingdom of Mewar in the earlier Rajputana Agency. The British annexed it into their territory as a princely state in 1818. The region became a part of Rajasthan after independence in 1947. The scenic city is surrounded by the Aravali Range, which separates it from the Thar Desert. Udaipur is a popular tourist destination. It is known for its ancient history, culture, spectacular locations and the palaces of the Rajput-era. It has a sophisticated lake system which earned it the nickname of the "City of Lakes." There are five the major lakes in and around the city. Udaipur is extremely popular for its huge historic forts, marvelous palaces, verdurous gardens, architectural temples, ancient structures, colorful festivals, traditional fairs, historical museums and galleries. Tourism primarily fuels the economy of Udaipur. However, smaller industries such as marble processing, chemical manufacturing, minerals, electronic manufacturing and the handicraft industry are also great contributors to the citys economy. The Bank did a partnership with UNEP for initiating successful solar loan program. The solar loan program was launched in April 2003 to promote financing of solar home systems in southern India. The 3 RRBs are sponsored by the Syndicate bank presently, and all are making a profit by generating the total business of Rs.42101 crore with 1348 branches as on 31st March 2015. The Syndicate Bank has repositioned its Logo by changing the color combinations, as a part of the brand building exercise. The combinations of Orange, Yellow, Black & White colors make the logo unique. The primary objective of logo repositioning is to provide a more clear understanding of what the organization stands for, earn loyalty from its customers, establishing a brand identity, and also to give the logo a more contemporary look in a continuously changing & dynamic business environment. On November 7, 2017, Syndicate Bank created a human chain to spread awareness among the public for fighting with corruption. 14196 financial literacy programmes were organized to promote financial literacy in the villages, during the year 2015, in which 5.74 lakh persons were benefitted. Under PMJDY, the Bank has opened 3496559 number of accounts with a balance of Rs. 505 crore as on 31st March 2015.
