The holy city of Thanjavur is located in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is an important hub of religion, art, and architecture in South India. It was earlier known as Tanjore and had once served as the capital of the Chola Empire. Most of the famous temples in and around Thanjavur are from the Chola dynasty and they have now been turned into UNESCO World Heritage Monuments. The most popular among these is the Brihadeeswara Temple. It is situated in the center of Thanjavur. Thanjavur is also known for its uniquely styled Tanjore paintings. Legend says that the word Thanjavur is obtained from "Tanjan," who was an asura (devil) in the Hindu mythology. Tanjan was killed by the Hindu God Neelamegha Perumal (Vishnu) in the region that is now Thanjavur. Hence, the city is named so. The economy of the city is primarily driven by agriculture. Crops that are grown in Thanjavur are blackgram, banana, coconut, red gram, green gram, gingelly, ragi, sugarcane and maize. The city is an important center of silk weaving in Tamil Nadu and its Thanjavur silk sarees are popular throughout the country. Tourism is a large contributor to the citys economy - Hindu devotees and tourists from all over the world visit the city to explore its plethora of amazing old temples.

Its stocks of Syndicate Bank are listed on Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, and Bangalore Stock Exchange. The Bank did a partnership with UNEP for initiating successful solar loan program. The solar loan program was launched in April 2003 to promote financing of solar home systems in southern India. The 3 RRBs are sponsored by the Syndicate bank presently, and all are making a profit by generating the total business of Rs.42101 crore with 1348 branches as on 31st March 2015. The Syndicate Bank has repositioned its Logo by changing the color combinations, as a part of the brand building exercise. The combinations of Orange, Yellow, Black & White colors make the logo unique. The primary objective of logo repositioning is to provide a more clear understanding of what the organization stands for, earn loyalty from its customers, establishing a brand identity, and also to give the logo a more contemporary look in a continuously changing & dynamic business environment. The bank is hiring approximately 3000 young officers for replacing the officers getting retired. On November 7, 2017, Syndicate Bank created a human chain to spread awareness among the public for fighting with corruption. 14196 financial literacy programmes were organized to promote financial literacy in the villages, during the year 2015, in which 5.74 lakh persons were benefitted. Under PMJDY, the Bank has opened 3496559 number of accounts with a balance of Rs. 505 crore as on 31st March 2015.
