Thane is a city in the northwestern side of Maharashtra, around 25 kilometers away from Mumbai. Just like Mumbai, Thane experiences a humid tropical climate with heavy rainfall during monsoon. An immediate neighbor of Mumbai, Thane, is an extremely populous urban agglomeration with nearly two million residents. It is a part of the huge Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Being more of a residential city, the people of Thane mostly work in the service sector of the Mumbai Metropolitan area. Thane generates the fifth largest GDP in the state. Thane holds great records of history. Indias first railroad was laid in Thane and it was the terminus for Asias first ever passenger train which was inaugurated on 6th April 1853. The train connected a stretch of 34 kilometers from Thane to Colaba. The city has rapidly developed and is now well-connected with several neighboring suburbs and other cities through railways as well as roadways. With a handsome share of skyscrapers and plenty of amenities, Thane has become one of the most well-developed and well-planned cities in Maharashtra. the Prathama Bank is the first regional rural bank in India, sponsored by the Syndicate Bank in Moradabad district Uttar Pradesh on 2 October 1975. Its stocks of Syndicate Bank are listed on Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, and Bangalore Stock Exchange. The Bank did a partnership with UNEP for initiating successful solar loan program. The solar loan program was launched in April 2003 to promote financing of solar home systems in southern India. The 3 RRBs are sponsored by the Syndicate bank presently, and all are making a profit by generating the total business of Rs.42101 crore with 1348 branches as on 31st March 2015. The Syndicate Bank has repositioned its Logo by changing the color combinations, as a part of the brand building exercise. The combinations of Orange, Yellow, Black & White colors make the logo unique. The primary objective of logo repositioning is to provide a more clear understanding of what the organization stands for, earn loyalty from its customers, establishing a brand identity, and also to give the logo a more contemporary look in a continuously changing & dynamic business environment. The bank is hiring approximately 3000 young officers for replacing the officers getting retired. On November 7, 2017, Syndicate Bank created a human chain to spread awareness among the public for fighting with corruption. 14196 financial literacy programmes were organized to promote financial literacy in the villages, during the year 2015, in which 5.74 lakh persons were benefitted. Under PMJDY, the Bank has opened 3496559 number of accounts with a balance of Rs. 505 crore as on 31st March 2015.
