Dhanbad is second largest and the most populous city in the east Indian state of Jharkhand. It is popularly known by the name ?The Coal Capital of India?. Looking into the etymology, the name Dhanbad is believed to have been derived from the words "Dhan" which means wealth and Abad which means prosperity. When the words are put together, it means "prospered with wealth" for being a mineral-rich region. Another alternate explanation attributes the name of the city to its rich paddy fields as "Dhaan" in the local language means paddy. Both of these explanations make equal sense because the city is indeed quite rich in minerals and it also has the largest rice producing farms in Jharkhand. The chief economic source of the city is mining and some of the largest mining production units are situated in Dhanbad. Companies like Tata Steel, Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), and Indian Iron And Steel Company operate in Dhanbad. Dhanbad Rail Division generates a lot of revenue and ranks second after the Mumbai division. Dhanbad has many reputed educational institutions such as the Indian School of Mines, IIT Dhanbad, Patliputra Medical College and Hospital, Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research, etc. Places like Maithan Dam, Panchet Dam, Bhatinda Falls, Shakti Mandir and Topchanchi Wildlife Sanctuary serve as major tourist hubs in this city.

Its stocks of Syndicate Bank are listed on Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, and Bangalore Stock Exchange. The Bank did a partnership with UNEP for initiating successful solar loan program. The solar loan program was launched in April 2003 to promote financing of solar home systems in southern India. The 3 RRBs are sponsored by the Syndicate bank presently, and all are making a profit by generating the total business of Rs.42101 crore with 1348 branches as on 31st March 2015. The Syndicate Bank has repositioned its Logo by changing the color combinations, as a part of the brand building exercise. The combinations of Orange, Yellow, Black & White colors make the logo unique. The primary objective of logo repositioning is to provide a more clear understanding of what the organization stands for, earn loyalty from its customers, establishing a brand identity, and also to give the logo a more contemporary look in a continuously changing & dynamic business environment. The bank is hiring approximately 3000 young officers for replacing the officers getting retired. On November 7, 2017, Syndicate Bank created a human chain to spread awareness among the public for fighting with corruption. 14196 financial literacy programmes were organized to promote financial literacy in the villages, during the year 2015, in which 5.74 lakh persons were benefitted. Under PMJDY, the Bank has opened 3496559 number of accounts with a balance of Rs. 505 crore as on 31st March 2015.
