Bhopal, in recent times, serves as a trade center of electrical goods, and chemicals, cotton clothes and jewelry. The city also has various institutes of national importance. AIIMS, IISER and ISRO?s Master Control Facility are a few among them. Bhopal is known for its gas tragedy on 3rd December 1984, when methyl isocyanate gas escaped from the Union Carbide Insecticide plant and affected the lives of lakhs of people, killing thousands. It was one of the gravest industrial disasters in the history of mankind.

The Bank did a partnership with UNEP for initiating successful solar loan program. The solar loan program was launched in April 2003 to promote financing of solar home systems in southern India. The 3 RRBs are sponsored by the Syndicate bank presently, and all are making a profit by generating the total business of Rs.42101 crore with 1348 branches as on 31st March 2015. The Syndicate Bank has repositioned its Logo by changing the color combinations, as a part of the brand building exercise. The combinations of Orange, Yellow, Black & White colors make the logo unique. Under PMJDY, the Bank has opened 3496559 number of accounts with a balance of Rs. 505 crore as on 31st March 2015.
