Bhilai, popularly known as the ?Steel City of India," is situated in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. It is also the administrative capital of Durg district, divided into 68 administrative wards for better governance. The city has been named after the Bhil tribe which inhabited this region. The city is famous for the Bhilai Steel Plant, which is one of the oldest bedrocks of Indias economy. It was the first Indian Steel plant that produced steel rails. The chemical industry is also quite flourishing in Bhilai. The economy of the city is mainly based on the steel manufacturing plant built here. Its stocks of Syndicate Bank are listed on Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, and Bangalore Stock Exchange. The Bank did a partnership with UNEP for initiating successful solar loan program. The solar loan program was launched in April 2003 to promote financing of solar home systems in southern India. The 3 RRBs are sponsored by the Syndicate bank presently, and all are making a profit by generating the total business of Rs.42101 crore with 1348 branches as on 31st March 2015. The Syndicate Bank has repositioned its Logo by changing the color combinations, as a part of the brand building exercise. Under PMJDY, the Bank has opened 3496559 number of accounts with a balance of Rs. 505 crore as on 31st March 2015.
