Amritsar, historically remembered as Ramdaspur or Ambarsar, is a city in the north Indian state of Punjab. Rivers Beas and Ravi, distributaries of the great Indus River, flow through two edges of this city. It is esteemed as a holy place by the Sikh community as it hosts the famous Golden Temple. It is an extremely busy and one of the most visited shrines in India, which attracts devotees as well as visitors from India and abroad. The Bank of Madura Limited was acquired by the ICICI Bank in an all-stock deal in 2001. The same year ICICI Bank became the first Indian bank to list on the New York Stock Exchange with its five million American depositary shares.
