The twin cities of Kalyan and Dombivli were joined and converted into the Kalyan-Dombivli municipal corporation in 1982 to improve the administration of the twin townships. The headquarter of this city is situated in Kalyan. Kalyan and Dombivli are both cities in the Thane District of Konkan division in Maharashtra state. The city comprises a majority of Hindu residents who speak mostly in Marathi. The weather in this city follows the exact trends as that of Mumbai and is known to experience the notorious Mumbai rains. The twin city of Kalyan-Dombivli had been under the reigns of the Mughal, the Portuguese as well as the British. The celebrated Maratha heroes, held in high esteem by the residents, were the only valiant defense against these foreign invasions. The city of Kalyan used to be surrounded by a fort wall which was constructed during the Mughal age and further improved by the Maratha rulers. It was called the Durgadi Fort. History claims that a small wooden temple dedicated to Durgadevi was behind the mosque inside this fort wall. However, this historical relic was dismantled by the British and the stones were used to build the piers of Thane and Kalyan. The idol in the temple was also stolen. Only the remnants of the north-west gate of this fort still remain to remind the people of the historic past.

Its stocks of Syndicate Bank are listed on Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, and Bangalore Stock Exchange. The Bank did a partnership with UNEP for initiating successful solar loan program. The solar loan program was launched in April 2003 to promote financing of solar home systems in southern India. The 3 RRBs are sponsored by the Syndicate bank presently, and all are making a profit by generating the total business of Rs.42101 crore with 1348 branches as on 31st March 2015. The Syndicate Bank has repositioned its Logo by changing the color combinations, as a part of the brand building exercise. The combinations of Orange, Yellow, Black & White colors make the logo unique. The primary objective of logo repositioning is to provide a more clear understanding of what the organization stands for, earn loyalty from its customers, establishing a brand identity, and also to give the logo a more contemporary look in a continuously changing & dynamic business environment. The bank is hiring approximately 3000 young officers for replacing the officers getting retired. On November 7, 2017, Syndicate Bank created a human chain to spread awareness among the public for fighting with corruption. 14196 financial literacy programmes were organized to promote financial literacy in the villages, during the year 2015, in which 5.74 lakh persons were benefitted. Under PMJDY, the Bank has opened 3496559 number of accounts with a balance of Rs. 505 crore as on 31st March 2015.
