Kakinada, a city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, was formerly known as Cocanada. It is one of the largest cities in AP and serves as the district headquarters of the East Godavari district. It was initially known as Kakinandivada village, which was eventually a Dutch settlement. They used export sarees that were called coca or koka in Telugu. Hence, the place was named Cocanada. The name was finally changed to Kakinada after Independence. This city is one of the fastest growing cities in Andhra Pradesh and is currently being developed into a smart city as per PM Narendra Modis smart Cities Mission. Kakinada Port has a natural harbor at Hope Island, which contains two ports - an anchorage port and a deep-water port. The economy of Kakinada primarily depends upon agriculture, fishing and industrial sectors. Paddy and coconut are heavily cultivated in the city. The industrial sector covers the manufacture of refined edible oil, fertilizers and natural gas. The local economy is additionally supported by its textile industry and manufacture of auto parts, steel-related ancillary units and fishing. Kakinada is globally famous for its sweet called kaaja. This Tier-II city got its first IT Park in 2007 and many software companies have opened offices in the city, providing job opportunities to the local youths.

Its stocks of Syndicate Bank are listed on Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, and Bangalore Stock Exchange. The Bank did a partnership with UNEP for initiating successful solar loan program. The solar loan program was launched in April 2003 to promote financing of solar home systems in southern India. The 3 RRBs are sponsored by the Syndicate bank presently, and all are making a profit by generating the total business of Rs.42101 crore with 1348 branches as on 31st March 2015. The Syndicate Bank has repositioned its Logo by changing the color combinations, as a part of the brand building exercise. The combinations of Orange, Yellow, Black & White colors make the logo unique. The primary objective of logo repositioning is to provide a more clear understanding of what the organization stands for, earn loyalty from its customers, establishing a brand identity, and also to give the logo a more contemporary look in a continuously changing & dynamic business environment. The bank is hiring approximately 3000 young officers for replacing the officers getting retired. On November 7, 2017, Syndicate Bank created a human chain to spread awareness among the public for fighting with corruption. 14196 financial literacy programmes were organized to promote financial literacy in the villages, during the year 2015, in which 5.74 lakh persons were benefitted. Under PMJDY, the Bank has opened 3496559 number of accounts with a balance of Rs. 505 crore as on 31st March 2015.
