Jalandhar was known by the name Jullundur during the British era. This Indian city is situated in the north-western state of Punjab. It is considered to be one of the oldest cities in the country. It is the administrative headquarters of the Jalandhar district which is divided into 63 wards represented by the elected members called counselors. The city has a rich history in folklore. According to the Hindu epic Ramayana, Jalandhar was the capital of King Lav, the son of Lord Rama and was apparently named after a demon called "Jalandar". The main economic support of the city is derived from agriculture. The most grown crop is wheat followed by other crops such as rice, cotton, pearl millet, maize, sugarcane, barley and different fruits. Jalandhar is home to many government-run and private educational institutions. Prestigious institutions like the National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar, DAV University, Lovely Professional University, Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Khalsa College etc. have been opened in Jalandhar. The city is also known for places of tourist attractions such as Devi Talab Mandir, Shiv Mandir, Shiv Bari Mandir, Imam Nasir Mausoleum and Jamma Masjid, Gurudwara Kakipind Rama Mandir, etc.
the Prathama Bank is the first regional rural bank in India, sponsored by the Syndicate Bank in Moradabad district Uttar Pradesh on 2 October 1975. Its stocks of Syndicate Bank are listed on Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, and Bangalore Stock Exchange. The Bank did a partnership with UNEP for initiating successful solar loan program. The solar loan program was launched in April 2003 to promote financing of solar home systems in southern India. The 3 RRBs are sponsored by the Syndicate bank presently, and all are making a profit by generating the total business of Rs.42101 crore with 1348 branches as on 31st March 2015. The Syndicate Bank has repositioned its Logo by changing the color combinations, as a part of the brand building exercise. The combinations of Orange, Yellow, Black & White colors make the logo unique. The primary objective of logo repositioning is to provide a more clear understanding of what the organization stands for, earn loyalty from its customers, establishing a brand identity, and also to give the logo a more contemporary look in a continuously changing & dynamic business environment. The bank is hiring approximately 3000 young officers for replacing the officers getting retired. On November 7, 2017, Syndicate Bank created a human chain to spread awareness among the public for fighting with corruption. 14196 financial literacy programmes were organized to promote financial literacy in the villages, during the year 2015, in which 5.74 lakh persons were benefitted. Under PMJDY, the Bank has opened 3496559 number of accounts with a balance of Rs. 505 crore as on 31st March 2015.
