Agartala, a rapidly developing city, is the state capital of Tripura. The name Agartala is derived from two words - "Agar" refers to an oily and valuable perfume tree, and the word "tala" refers to a storehouse. It refers to the abundantly available Agarwood trees in the region. Located on the bank of the Haora River, Agartala is located 2 kilometers away from the Bangladesh Border. The city experiences a humid climate, with heavy rainfall throughout the year except during the dry winter days. The city has around half a million population and is divided into 49 wards for effective administration. Most of the residents of Agartala are employed in government-owned enterprises. The Public Sector Units that provide employment in Agartala are ONGC, GAIL, Powergrid Corp. Of India Ltd, Airports Authority of India (AAI) and BSNL among a few others. The economy of Agartala developed at a very slow pace until about the year 2000. A few MNCs have recently entered the city and the city is gradually picking up the developmental momentum. NIT, Tripura Medical College, Tripura University, MBB College, ICFAI UNIVERSITY, etc. are some of the prominent academic institutions in the city. Hinduism is the most common religion and there are plenty of temples in the city. There are many churches as well since Christianity is also a widespread faith. There are several spectacular places of tourist interest such as Ujjayanta Palace, Agartala Amusement Park Amtali, Venuban Buddha Vihar, Jagannath temple and College Tilla, apart from the numerous parks and gardens that beautify this city.
the Prathama Bank is the first regional rural bank in India, sponsored by the Syndicate Bank in Moradabad district Uttar Pradesh on 2 October 1975. Its stocks of Syndicate Bank are listed on Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, and Bangalore Stock Exchange. The Bank did a partnership with UNEP for initiating successful solar loan program. The solar loan program was launched in April 2003 to promote financing of solar home systems in southern India. The 3 RRBs are sponsored by the Syndicate bank presently, and all are making a profit by generating the total business of Rs.42101 crore with 1348 branches as on 31st March 2015. The Syndicate Bank has repositioned its Logo by changing the color combinations, as a part of the brand building exercise. The combinations of Orange, Yellow, Black & White colors make the logo unique. The primary objective of logo repositioning is to provide a more clear understanding of what the organization stands for, earn loyalty from its customers, establishing a brand identity, and also to give the logo a more contemporary look in a continuously changing & dynamic business environment. The bank is hiring approximately 3000 young officers for replacing the officers getting retired. On November 7, 2017, Syndicate Bank created a human chain to spread awareness among the public for fighting with corruption. 14196 financial literacy programmes were organized to promote financial literacy in the villages, during the year 2015, in which 5.74 lakh persons were benefitted. Under PMJDY, the Bank has opened 3496559 number of accounts with a balance of Rs. 505 crore as on 31st March 2015.
