Ambattur is situated in the Ambattur taluk near Chennai, in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a fast developing city that hosts residential localities as well as manufacturing units. Ambattur was earlier a village with large expanses of agricultural farmlands irrigated by the Ambattur Lake. The Ambattur industrial estate established in 1964, increased the growth and development of the region. Ambattur falls under the Sriperumbudur parliamentary constituency. It has more than half a million residents and the city is organized into 52 wards for able administration. There are three major waterbodies in Ambattur - the Ambattur Eri, the Puzhal Eri and the Chithu Oragadam Lake.
