On 19 July 1969, The GoI nationalized the UCO Bank. The overseas operations of the nationalized UCO bank continued in London, Singapore, and Hong Kong. The Malaysian law forbids the foreign government ownership in banks of Malaysia. Therefore, UCO Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, and Indian Bank contributed in operating a new joint-venture bank, known as United Asian Bank incorporated in Malaysia, with each of the three parent banks owning one-third of the shares. The bank has a regional presence of 3,078 branches and 2564 ATMs with a prospective growth in the number of branches as well as ATMs. The logo of UCO bank includes a pair of clasped hands covered by an octagonal structure. It has been colored blue since the organizations inception is to represent the national responsibility of the bank. The background of the logo is yellow from the beginning. The motto of the UCO Bank is "Honours your Trust". The significant competitors of the bank have always been the State Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda and the Bank of India. The economic liberalization may bring foreign banks, which could make the inter-bank competition intense for commercial and well-to-do retail customers.
